Somanna did not become a popular leader overnight. He was twice a BBMP Corporator, five times a MLA, twice a MLC and five times a Minister. He rose, step by step, accumulating experience and maturity, to become a complete leader. The contribution of his experience to the success of any Government he is part of is self-evident.
He is a legislator from Govindarajnagar in Bengaluru. He has developed this into a model Constituency in the entire State. He is a darling of the public. He keeps in direct touch with them and responds to their needs and requirements, which is his endearing trait. By providing note books to economically weak students, food rations to the poor, free health camps and timely treatment, the Aasare housing scheme of the Government, pension and other Government schemes and facilities to the public, he has earned the popular sobriquet of ‘Leader of the poor.’
During the Covid pandemic, when the populace was facing severe problems, Somanna rushed to their aid like a friend in need. During the lockdown, he ensured that over 50 thousand food kits were delivered to the homes of people. He made sure people had access to quick treatment and provided vast numbers of masks and sanitizers. During emergencies, he ensured that patients received oxygen on time.
Somanna has not confined himself to party politics. He is active in several social and cultural organisations and associations.
